HRSA Announced New Access Points Grants Released

HRSA announced that 250 million dollars in grants is available through the Affordable Care Act to support New Access Points (NAP). The plan is to deliver primary health care services to underserved and vulnerable populations under the Health Center Program. A new access point is a new full time service delivery site that provides comprehensive primary and preventive healthcare services.

HRSA anticipates that there will be approximately 350 NAP grant awards with 650,000 million dollars estimated to be the size of the average awards to support more than 19 million people nationwide in FY 2011.

Applicants seeking NAP grants will need to demonstrate a high level of need in their community, present a sound proposal, and demonstrate collaborative and coordinated deliver systems for the provision of healthcare to the underserved. Applicants also need to show that NAPs will provide quality primary healthcare services, including oral health, mental health and substance abuse services. Applicants can be private non-profit entities including tribal, faith-based, and community-based organizations that meet health center funding requirements.

Availability of applications was announced August 9th and the application deadline is November 17, 2010. The projected award date is August 1, 2011 and the project period is estimated to be two years.

Georgia Health Policy Center Assembles Health Reform Work Group

The Georgia Health Policy Center has formed a work group dedicated to understanding and translating the new health reform law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The act, signed into law in March 2010, aims to expand public and private insurance coverage, improve the health care delivery system, and increase access to preventive services in the United States.

Experts from across Georgia State University are delving into the details of the law to provide a clear understanding of the impact on state policymakers, agencies, providers, community-based organizations, individuals, and businesses. A collaborative effort, the group is comprised of faculty and staff from the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, the J. Mack Robinson College of Business, the College of Law, and the College of Health & Human Sciences. Our team offers health expertise in the following areas: policy, administration, economics, law, insurance, financing, employee benefits, risk management, public and private coverage, long-term care, public health, and more.

We are pleased to share our health reform policy briefs with you!  They are located under "Resources," drop down menu "Focus Areas," and in the folder "General."  They are entitled "GHPC Health Care Reform Briefs."
